Hawks solving their problems

Things are really looking up for the Blackhawks as they prepare toopen a five-game homestand against the Dallas Stars tonight at theUnited Center.

They seem to have cured their road woes, they've found a newplayer who can win faceoffs, and more help is on the way. DefensemanAlexander Karpovtsev, though still listed as day-to-day by generalmanager Mike Smith on Saturday, is expected to return to game actionagainst the Stars.

Karpovtsev, the best shot-blocker in the NHL last season, has beensidelined by a fractured right ankle since Nov. 5.

Karpovtsev accompanied the Hawks on last week's three-game NewYork road trip and skated every day. He has been awaiting …
