Short-line rail company reports strong results

Emons Transportation Group Inc., a growing short-line railroad headquartered in York, has reported strong fiscal second-quarter results as the company pursues acquisitions and provides more than just rail service to the companies located along its lines.

In a Feb. 11 news release, Emons reported operating revenues of $5.18 million, a 27 percent increase from $4.07 million for the second quarter of the last fiscal year, which ended June 30, 1998.

Income before taxes increased 16 percent to $525,000. That increase came despite $156,000 of start-up expenses related to Emons' latest and "most significant" acquisition, the St. Lawrence & Atlantic Railroad (Quebec) Inc., said …
